The Division won’t have pay to advance microtransactions

Microtransactions have become an expected part of any Ubisoft game, whether it be extra payment options to skip through content or additional ‘boosters’ to speed up progress for those with less time. However, these options apparently won’t be present in The Division, so while the game will have additional cosmetic purchases, it won’t have ‘booster’ options as we have seen in titles like Assassin’s Creed or The Crew.
In an interview with Eurogamer, The Division’s director tackled the question of microtransactions, saying: “I don’t know if there’s a globally agreed definition of the word microtransactions”, he then went on to give some good news, revealing that “you don’t pay to win or advance or anything like that.”
“We have DLC plans – which we’re not talking about now – and obviously, you’ll pay for that, but in addition to that, there’s no microtransactions, as I define them”. Ubisoft later clarified that there will be ‘vanity’ or cosmetic items available through the Ubisoft store but overall, the publisher seems to be trying to avoid the term microtransaction entirely with this game.
The Division will have a short beta test at the end of this month, starting on the 28th for Xbox One players and the 29th for PC and PS4, this test will end on the 31st of January. The game itself launches on the 8th of March.
